Our Mission 〰️

TRAR Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to cultivating a sustainable future where food waste is reduced, and access to nutritious food is a right, not a privilege. Our mission is to empower communities through the exchange of produce and pantry staples, fostering a culture of sharing. By connecting neighbors, we aim to create a resilient network where surplus food becomes a resource rather than waste. Together, we can combat food insecurity and build stronger, more nourishing communities for all.

Why did you found this organization? 〰️

“I created this organization to give people a choice. Through my work in soup kitchens and restaurants over the past five years, I've observed the significant inequalities people face in accessing fresh and affordable food. I believe the TRAR Foundation can ensure that good food is a right for everyone, not just a choice for a few.”

Thomas Rangsikul, CEO

Anjali Raman, COO

“Nutritious food is inaccessible to so many people because of systemic barriers, and this lack of access manifests in poor community health outcomes and further entrenches these disparities. I joined the TRAR Foundation to contribute to the work of so many organizations in Nashville looking to interrupt this cycle. I believe in the power of communities to be self-sustaining; our flagship initiative, Porch2Porch, aligns with this ethos by developing a network of neighbors looking out for each other, which is a central tenet of the foundation’s mission.”

FAQs

  • TRAR Foundation recognizes that Nashville’s food system is inefficient for many of its residents. Some find themselves in food deserts and swamps where they are unable to consistently access nutritious food items. Others find themselves with a surplus of goods that they are forced to throw away before they can be used, which can feel wasteful. We hope to connect these two groups by recovering food that would otherwise be wasted and distributing it to those requesting such donations.

  • TRAR Foundation is proud to launch Porch2Porch, our platform which helps recover food that would otherwise be wasted and deliver it to recipients who will be able to use it before its expiration through volunteer delivery drivers. We are also conducting research into the impacts of food insecurity in East Nashville through our Community Needs Assessment. Finally, we are developing a grocery store transportation service to help individuals access grocery stores with more ease and convenience.

  • TRAR Foundation is currently concentrating its activities in East Nashville. We hope to expand into other Nashville neighborhoods soon as our organization grows.

  • We welcome anybody who would like to join our work with open arms! Through Porch2Porch, you can serve as a donor, recipient, or driver based on your needs and how you would like to participate. You can also complete our Community Needs Assessment to assist our research efforts. If you have an idea you would like to contribute, please do not hesitate to reach out to us through our Contact form, located on our Home page.
